COMPLETED 13.5.38. BENTLEY STANDARDISATION OF PARTS Date Issued: 8.3.38. Sheet No.: B.9. Drg. No.: L.O.P.S. Description: 10/43 AXLE RATIO INCLUDING DOUBLE ROW PINION NOSE ROLLER BEARING SHOWN ON PD.41. Purpose: For use with overdrive gearbox to improve performance in direct gear. Brief Report and Remarks: Gears of this ratio ran 28,000 miles on 5.B.IV, 32 hours on 3rd. speed on dyno. and will have completed 10,000 miles on 6.B.IV. Nose bearing failure of a single row roller occured on 6.B.IV. at 5,000 miles. The double row bearing will shortly undergo dyno. test. 10/43 ratio also fitted in 3.B.IV and B.10.DG. New Parts: Material £2.6.8., Labour £0.16.9, Burden £1.9. 4., Total £4.12.9. Increase in Cost: £0. 5. 4. (handwritten: GRH 9/4/38) Cost of Tools: £ 16.0.0d., Production Position and Comments: New design 10/43 axle gears with double row pinion bearing to be introduced at 1st. Bentley in 'M' series increases factory cost of chassis by 5/4d. and involves £16.0.0d tool cost. All details for 10/41 gears of existing type have been released for 'M' series and as a result parts valued £196.0.0d. are machined too far to convert to new design and will therefore be rendered scrap.
