X4425 HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}7/H6.3.23. re. C.56. LODGE PLUGS. With reference to my conversation with you re the above, I am returning herewith 6 of the last batch of 100 experimental plugs. These are out of a set of 12 which have been used on the 40/50 engine unit test bed, 5 of which have given trouble through the porcelain becoming loose and the other one through preigniting. The porcelains appear tight when the plug is cold, but when warmed up become loose and allow leakage and other objectionable noises to take place, which I am afraid condemns them for general use. I also understand from you that you are having trouble on test with these plugs overoiling, and that you do not now recommend them. Do I take it therefore, that we are to continue using K.L.G. K 1. for 20-HP. and for the 40/50, C9. for the pocket and C. for the intermediate position, which is the present standard? Will you please instruct that stocks are to be maintained of these types of plugs, unless you wish to recommend others. As a matter of fact I rather feel at present that the stocks are being reduced to a minimum anticipating that the C.56 will be standardised. EP.{G.
