CAST IRON BRAKE DRUMS P.II We have been testing various brake linings for squeaks and efficiency using the C.I. brake drums. The test has comprised twelve consecutive brakings from 70 M.P.H. down to 10 M.P.H. then 20 brakings every half mile from 40 M.P.H. to 10 M.P.H. This has been repeated 40 times during the test. The rear brake drums at this period show every sign of collapsing. There is a series of small cracks all round the braking surface of the drums. The front brake drums are also cracking, but at this period are not so numerous as the rear. The braking effort with the C.I. drums has been very good and consistent, squeaking of the brakes has been less than usual. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W.
