-3- How often should gearbox and back axle oil levels be inspected? (For 20 h.p. and 'Phantom' we say every 5,000 miles; casing to be drained after first 5,000 and subsequently after every 10,000 miles). [Handwritten: Same as previously] What are possible causes of oil pressure failure? For the 'Phantom' we give the following- (1) Insufficient oil in the well of the engine. [Handwritten: yes.] (2) The filter needs cleaning. [Handwritten: yes.] (3) There is a leak somewhere in the high-pressure system. [Handwritten: yes.] (4) The high-pressure relief valve is being held open by some foreign substance on its seat. [Handwritten: yes] (5) The pressure gauge may be at fault. [Handwritten: yes] (6) If the pressure varies considerably with the speed of the engine the oil is probably too thin. Only those oils recommended by Rolls-Royce Ltd. should be used. [Handwritten: yes] [Handwritten: (7) Engine bearings require attention.] What are the correct tappet clearances? [Handwritten: Inlet .002. Exhaust .003. } To be set Cold.] | ||
