Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
Derby.

8th August 1938

Dear Mr. Robotham,

I thank you for your letter of 6th august and am most grateful to you for the trouble you are taking with regard to a car for my use in connection with the Tourist Trophy race and afterwards when I am on tour, and shall look forward to hearing from you at a later date. Incidentally I do not wish to hurry you in this matter, but I would like a decision within the next week if possible, so that I may make proper acknowledgments of your kindness in the Official Programme.

You say in your letter that "unfortunately you will be in Scotland during the Race, but really I expect you are looking forward to some leave, and the fact that you will be away for the T.T. does not strike me as being very much of a misfortune when one is enjoying a holiday. I shall, however, hope to see you during the week we are in Derby prior to the Race.

I do not think there is much hope of our going back to a race on a road circuit again, although it would almost be worthwhile if it would interest you. The responsibility of a big race on a road circuit, with the difficulties of crowd control is, I think, more than the Club would care to face again after the accident which occurred during the 1936 T.T. However, only time can show this.

All good wishes,

Yours sincerely,
AW Phillips
