Testing procedures and observations for Wraith III engine units No. 8 and No. 9.

WRAITH III NO.8 UNIT - CONT'D. {John DeLooze - Company Secretary}

(1) "Running in" (Mot.C).
(2) Power open exh. and with silencer (std.).
(3) 1 hr. oil consumption at 4000 R.P.M. (Mot.C).
(4) Gears to be quietened and observations of rattles etc.
(5) Noises generally (valve gear etc.)
(6) Check unit for distribution and if poor, what improvement the experimental pipe makes. The pipe as recommended by us and detailed in I.Dept. should be progressed and tested.

This unit to be retained until either Bentley III No.1 or Wraith III No.6 is ready when it should be finalled off for a chassis.

2nd. BFD.

WRAITH III NO.9.

New up-to-date unit to be tested preparatory for fitting in chassis as follows.

(1) "Running in" (Motorine C.)
(2) Oil cons. of 1 hr. at 4000 and repeat for being consistent. If O.K. carry on with the following tests, if not, decision as to what to fit will be made.
(3) Power curve "open exhaust" and with standard Wraith silencer.
(4) With standard silencer obtain distribution figure.
(5) Timing gears to be quietened, and listen for rattle which was cured by end thrust plunger as per No.7 unit. Trial of with and without cam balance for rattle. Decision on result.
(6) Noises generally (valve gear at recommended setting .006 cold.
(7) Crank periods and other vibration periods.
(8) Tune up and pass off for chassis.
