2619? Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/MH.{M. Huckerby} 11th. July, 1939. Geoffrey Smith, Esq., Managing Editor, "The Autocar", Dorset House, Stamford Street, LONDON, S.E.1. Dear Mr. Geoffrey Smith, Thank you for your letter of 4th. July. We should be glad to see Mr. Tombs any day next week, preferably Wednesday or Thursday. We had a delightful time in the Dolomites. The Italians exhibit a certain amount of reserve on the Frontiers, but once you get inside the country the sight of a pound-note overcomes any feeling of aversion which they may be inclined to show. They all complain that the only tourists they get are Germans, who have no money to spend. I understand that you wanted to try the Bentley almost immediately on the Continent, which is rather unfortunate because in a month's time I could almost certainly have arranged something. If there is any chance of you wanting to use the car on the Continent in the middle of August, please let me know and I will see if something can be fixed. As you know, however, these experimental cars are always slightly uncertain in their movements owing to causes not under the control of the Engineering Department. By the way, I think the bathing at the Hotel du Cap is as good as anywhere in Europe. Yours sincerely, | ||
