X.3182 - REPORT ON DICK'S S.L.P. OIL

This oil was submitted to us by W.B. Dick & Co., they already supply our works with all the cutting oil, lard oil and quenching oil. They are an old established Firm of Oil Refiners. Their chief chemist is Mr. Woodrow who is an authority on oils.

We consider this oil is quite satisfactory for our engines.

The services are always requesting that we should recommend a number of oils for use because they find it very diffichit to obtain supplied of Castrol.

The following are Laboratory tests:-

Composition. 86% mineral oil.
13.2% fatty oil.

Specific Gravity. .895.

Acidity. .4%

Flash point open. 247°C

Glue Test. Satisfactory - rather less inclined to jellify than Castrol but slightly more inclined to darken.

Viscosity T 50 cu. cen.
130°F 275 secs.
212°F 64 "

Freezing Tests. Oil becomes too thick to flow at -2°C.
