CHASSIS. Minute No.

1.
Item 1 on Agenda. - J.II. or J.III - progress generally - what has happened since last conference in regard to this car ?

Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} enquired regarding progress and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said that automatically adjusted tappets have been developed and certain re-designing is in hand. He remarked that this type of tappet calls for great accuracy in manufacture and that the limits of error permissible are Very small.
A modified front axle has also been put in hand.
Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} pointed out that it is still of great importance that the work on this chassis should be kept going.

2.
Item 2 on Agenda. Peregrine generally and Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}1/E3.3.33.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reported that the 10,000 miles Peregrine is on its way back from France.
Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} raised the question of oil and petrol consumption.
Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said that oil consumption on these French test runs is always heavy in comparison with the consumption on normal average use. For instance, the 20/25 does about 600 to 700 miles per gallon under 10,000 miles test conditions compared with about 1,800 miles per gallon in ordinary use.
Various schemes of oil cooling were discussed.
Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said in reference to the petrol consumption that one of the main reasons for the heavy consumption is that the distribution is poor and this problem is being worked on.
Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said that when some definite progress has been made on the questions of:-

(1) Oil consumption;
(2) Oil temperature;
(3) Petrol consumption;

he will require that the car be sent back to France to continue running as before.
