Minute No.
E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}(Cont'd) (Item 2)
E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} referred to the switchbox and said he was in correspondence with R.{Sir Henry Royce} on the subject. He said a separate ignition switch is very desirable. Vibrator control was briefly discussed, and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said he would take up the matter with R.{Sir Henry Royce} as the system does not appear to be entirely satisfactory.

3. Item 3 on Agenda. Peregrine - have we any results yet re tests of Woodhead road springs?
Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said the Peregrine now returning from France has Woodhead Springs.

4. Item 4 on Agenda. Hensport generally - position re 2nd car for test. Certain points in Em's report.
Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said the second car will be ready by Easter. The following modifications were agreed for incorporation in this second car:-
(1) Plain bearings to timing gears in place of ball bearings. (to reduce cost)
(2) Close ratio gear box.
(3) Modification to brake gear so as to reduce risk of fouling on bad roads.

Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} raised the question of instrument patch. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} showed a drawing of R.R. Sch.355 to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} which he approved.

The question of the failure of the circlip method of retaining piston pins was mentioned by Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}, and samples of pistons showing evidence of the failure and its effects were shown by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said he can easily raise the factor of safety on this feature by putting up the strength of the circlip and this should cure the trouble.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said he would also try out buttons in the ends of the piston pins which we have previously used.
