r3806. No. Rg{Mr Rowledge}/Tsn6/LW.23. 1. 30 BIJUR SYSTEM When Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} was last up here I took up with him the following two points:- (1) Necessity of increasing the capacity of Bijur pump and possibly also of tank if axles are included in the chassis system. (2) Could we have a scheme from him for using Bijur's solderless dural drip plugs wherever possible on the cars. With regard to the first item, he said he was afraid that it would call for more effort from the driver and might be uncomfortable to a woman wearing thin shoes. A larger pedal head might help, but we might do tests to find out whether it is uncomfortable. With regard to the dural drip plugs and unions, he was not willing to undertake completely re-scheming the two cars owing to pressure of more important work, but would like it done by BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and then submitted for his approval. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} could possibly be guided by the American schemes which we have obtained. We should obtain drawings and prices from Bijur's of all their latest dural drip plugs and connections. We are advancing as an argument for Bijur's drip plugs the fact that they would eliminate sweated unions and thus save a great deal in cost. He said, would we obtain cost data on this point as it would be a strong lever for R.{Sir Henry Royce} We also said it would avoid long Bijur pipes in the frame members which necessiated removing the body in order to re-sweat a leak. He said as a matter of fact, the existing pipes could be divided up in short lengths by extra banjos and would we find out from Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} and Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} where they would like this done. Rg{Mr Rowledge}/Tsn. Tsn. | ||
