Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/KT. 20.7.33. BENSPORT PETROL PUMPS. We have been carrying out some tests to see why we get such a large drop in flow across the S.U. carburetter. We find that a larger needle seat alone does not make a great deal of difference. There appeared to be a definite restriction in the drilling of the float chamber covers. We have made modifications to reduce this trouble and the attached report - Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell}8/KT.15.7.33. - shews that an increase in delivery of about 14 pts/hr. can be obtained by the alterations shewn in the attached sketch. Will you please [struckthrough] arrange for the design of the float chamber lid{A. J. Lidsey} to be altered. We are making further tests with lighter floats to see how much can be gained. As a matter of interest, we send you herewith curves showing the deliveries of the first four production petrol pumps. We are rather concerned that we have to use a pressure as high as 5 lbs/sq.in. in order to get an adequate delivery, and for this reason are working on removing any restrictions in the system.
