Re: Bentley III, I-B-V.{VIENNA} - Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}12/KW.4.10.37.

We shall again study the problem of a light boot lid{A. J. Lidsey} acting as a luggage platform.

We did so when we produced the boot lid{A. J. Lidsey} of 3-B-IV. without any real success.

A cantilever lid{A. J. Lidsey} having a reaction only 3.000 from the hinge of necessity is very highly stressed locally, whilst the body is equally heavily loaded.

For that reason we re-suggested the knuckle-jointed stays as an alternative, feeling that they might be a half-way compromise between the cantilever lid{A. J. Lidsey}, and the non-luggage-carrying lid.{A. J. Lidsey}

You have already heard from Em concerning the body shape in general.

When submitting a body design for a new chassis we submit always a replica of the latest corresponding body on the standard chassis, in this case the Park Ward Steel Saloon, only adding those modifications which we have been told are required by Sales. In order that we may be sure that the new chassis may be capable of receiving more advanced and modern coachwork designs and features, we made preliminary investigations of these designs.

Even if we feel we would like to suggest incorporating some of these more advanced features we do not do so for fear of increasing the cost, realising this limitation of our method of body production.

We give a few features we might have wished to add, taken from the new S.S. Jaguar.
(1) A completely swept and single piece front wing and running board.
(2) Built in wing lamps.
(3) A return sweep to the front end of the rear wing.
(4) No draught ventilation.
