Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.11/MA.21.2.35. FAILURE OF P.100 HEADLAMPS. Regarding the failure of P.100 headlamps which we have experienced, in which the complete magnetic dipper unit broke away from the supporting bracket. We have personally raised the matter with Mr.Neill of Messrs.Lucas, this afternoon whilst on a visit to them, pointing out the desirability from our point of view of a modification to the dipper unit. Mr.Neill was loath to alter the design in view of the fact that only two failures had been experienced amongst the many hundreds of pairs of lamps in service on our cars. We managed to persuade him, however, to consider a modification at this point and he is sending us very shortly a modified dipper bracket with additional support for the electro magnetic unit so that we can approve same in order that it can be incorporated on all our lamps.
