Alterations and new drawings for the Phantom III Chassis piston.

To R.H.G. c. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Re Phantom III Chassis - Piston - Section 5040. Please receive herewith blue prints of the following drawings;- E.87810 Piston - Grinding Drawing which replaces E.87409. E.87811 End Piece - Gudgeon Pin " " E.86707. Together with blue prints of;- E.87347 Piston which has been altered under alteration 17979/E, which reads;- Oil land, groove and holes below bottom ring groove added, also width of bottom ring groove altered from .175+1 to .179+1, and grinding drawing number altered from E.87409 to E.87810. REASON. Design Dept. and Mr.Maddock's request, to agree with Bentley practice, also use Bentley slotted piston ring. Existing Pistons to be modified. Will you please instruct as required, together with the following;- E.B.2378 Slotted Ring which replaces E.B.1493. Remainder of parts to LOP. E.86708. This completes instructions for experiment which includes the following;- (1) Bottom bearing dia. increased from 3.248-½ to 3.250-½ dia. (2) Bottom ring groove altered from .175+1 to .179+1 to accommodate Bentley slotted ring. (3) Oil land, groove and holes as Bentley. cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
