- 9 - Accumulator suspension. This is in urgent need for attention. We have broken one accumulator and box through the failure of rear suspension. The cause of the failure is the weakness of the rear bracket bolts holding bracket to frame. In the first instance, we were of the opinion that the nuts had become loose and finally slacking off. After fitting up the second bracket this did happen, one nut being off. The third time we made positively sure by rivetting the bolts over after well tightening up. At the end of 500 miles we found that the top bolt had broken and the bottom bolt still holding firm had caused the fracture of the flange of bracket at bottom corner. The breaking of the bolt; thus allowing the rear of battery to drop a severe strain is put upon the tie tube holding box to frame; and this was the cause of the lug on the frame being fractured. We have fitted an extra vertical stay from the cross member of the body work and have since run 1000 miles with no trouble. Exhaust silencer & bracket. New rear silencer to E.S. 2030 and L.O.P. 4.53738 with additional strap at rear end. The silencer has remained in good condition and lagging is still good. The brackets have remained firm. Exhaust swan neck & snout. These are still in good condition. There is an exhaust boom on retard. Exhaust cut out. Cut out operating gear to M.E.C.E. 2030/1/2 and L.O&P.G.52810 The long tube from front cross member to rear of silencer is too weak and has bent, this also rattles on silencer. The lugs and pins at both end of tube have become worn and rattle. Petrol tank & fittings. These are in good condition and have given no trouble. Rear spare wheel carrier. This has remained in good condition. We have had no trouble with the spare wheel working loose. Side spare wheel bracket. This is in good condition and wheel has remained firm. There is however a considerable amount of whipping of the tyre taking place whilst the car is running. General examination underneath the car. From examination the chassis frame is O.K. Brackets holding sub frame have remained O.K. | ||
