- 8 - Rear road springs & shackle bearings. These from outside examination are in good condition, and lubrication is good. We cannot detect any wear in the shackle bearings brackets holding rear anchors are O.K. We tried the spring clips at begining of test and at the present mileage; they have remained perfectly tight. L.C We have been continually hitting rear buffers and cannot detect any damage from this. We are of opinion that stronger rear spring would spoil the riding qualities of the car. We believe that more load in shock dampers would give us the desired results. Rear shock dampers. We dismantled these to ascertain wether the friction load was sufficient. We found that the screwed cap was half turn loose on the N.S.damper with a consequent loss of friction load. We dismantled plates in both dampers but we could not find anything definite to cause the loss. We did observe that the two rear plates were not getting lubricated. We refitted these up and the friction load was 50 lbs. These have been refitted with this setting. The connecting links required a slight ajustment. Propeller shaft. This has given no trouble. We cannot detect any wear having developed in the universal joints and there has been no leak of oil from spherical cover. Hand brake mechanism. This is quite satisfactory. Electrical fittings. "Elliott Ammeter". This has given no trouble and has worked quite satisfactory. "Ignition coil". Ignition coil with finer primary O.K. We have found no defects with this. "Distributor box". Distributor box "W" type cut out, contacts with rigid backing and rigid fixed point support. The contacts were in good condition and have functioned O.K. 40/50 type klaxon switch and wire. This has operated satisfactory Rear tail lamp. We cannot keep a bulb in the lamp, the filament will not stand the shocks of the roads. We have on an average changed a bulb every 500 miles. The large side glass of lamp has been broken by stones. The S.S.front lamp tube supporting wires underneath wing has broken in center, clips holding same had broken. We are of opinion that these are a poor fitting and better clips should be provided. The head lamps are very poor for high speed work, they do not throw a beam of light far enough and there is a dinite black spot. We are not at all satisfied with the "Lucas Headlights". | ||
