Mr. Skinner, who shares our views about the probable future of direct injection, is no longer permitted the discretionary powers in incurring experimental costs which he once had. Unfortunately the Chairman and Directors of Morris Motors are for the most part non-technical and somewhat lacking in imagination and we anticipate some difficulty in obtaining sanction to proceed with this work in the manner in which we should like to carry it out.
The patents, such as they are, covering the apparatus in its present form are not the property of the S.U. Co but are held by Kent, myself and a Mr. Scott. We then have a long-standing agreement with the S.U. Co covering all fuel-supplying apparatus, and under the terms of this agreement the Company have the option to take up this apparatus and develop it fully or to forego any claim to it.
