Inspection report detailing damage to rear axle and brake components after a crash.

REAR AXLE AND BRAKES.

Car returned to works after crash. Brake drums broken and Carrier Plates damaged.

Rear Axle - 8-34 ratio.

Centre Casing. G.83153. Chalk test passed, damaged by stones on underneath exposed section.

Axle Tubes G.83810-11.in S/N. Bent due to Crash. Offside bent .250. Nearside bent .025" (see sketches).

Axle Shafts. G.82645-6 in S/ZNCR. Twisted due to crash. Offside twisted 17º Nearside twisted 33º (see sketch). Slightly worn on oil seal section, i.e. about .001".

Bevel Gears.

Pinion G.82201 in S/ZN (made in U.S.A) General condition good. slight fidgetting on taper (taper 1 in 8)

Gear G.82202 in S/ZN (made in U.S.A). General condition good.

Differential Box. G.54469-56131 in S/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Fidgetting on joint faces and slight hard bedding in trunnion bores.

Trunnion. G.53904.(.780 dia. pins) slight hard bedding on diff. Box section.

Differential Gears - G.83286. General condition good, tendency for bushes to work forward towards centre of Diff.Box.

Allthrust washers show some bedding.

Pinion Driving Flange G.83893.S/N - signs of fidgetting in taper bore, also picking up for a small area around the acme thread.

Cover, Pinion Bearing Housing G.83625.S/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Slight picking up in bore driving flange section.

Ball Bearings. - Outer race of No. 145 Roller Bearing for Diff. Box revolving in centre case. R.{Sir Henry Royce} & M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Pinion Thrust Bearing - end play increased .001. Duplex Bearing - condition good.

Rear Brakes - (Steel Foot Brake Shoes)

Brake Drums - broken on outer edge due to crash. Scored on inside diameter.
