Dear Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer},

After my further conversations with you at Derby regarding your crank pin oiler troubles I wrote a more detailed letter to Heron. He has just replied to this, and is still of the opinion that the trouble is mainly due to condensation. He does not know, however, that these fancy Wakefield oils have been used, and I have just written to him and given him the information in strictest confidence, because I think that he, and other members of our laboratory, may be able to offer some satisfactory explanation if they are in possession of all possible details.

Incidentally, with regard to the fitting of stainless steel plugs in your aero engine, and perhaps Bentley crank shafts, Heron mentions that he sees no reason why stainless steel should be used, and suggests that a similar material to that of the crank shaft would be equally satisfactory.

I am not suggesting that this letter is a particularly informative one, but I am just keeping you advised of every bit of information we can glean on this matter.

With kind regards,

Yours sincerely,
F.{Mr Friese} R.{Sir Henry Royce} Banks
