EAGLE 16. PISTON X.3802

With regard to the sample Eagle 16. piston you left with us, we have cut this up because it appeared to be rather heavier than we expected, and we find that the crown is .062 in excess of the thickness we ask for all over, and also the upper portion of the inner cylindrical part of the piston, together with the piston pin bosses. The casting is a very nice clean one, but we should like to get down a little of its weight, as the Zephyr piston should not need such a thick crown as the trunk piston.
No doubt when machining thesein quantities they will be located mainly from within the crown so that the latter is held to the desired thickness.
We return to you under separate cover one section of the piston roughly marked in pencil shewing where we want to get the weight down. It is not very much that we can remove, but the weight has to be constantly watched and pared down, especially on moving parts.
