COPY. Mr Wormald TBB7/H20912. RECEIVED 23 SEP 1912 Westwood, Crowborough, Sussex. 20th Sept. 1912. Mr Johnson & T.C. Re Footbrake - Ferodo Lining. With reference to the suggested test of Ferodo for footbrake lining, the following should be tried:- (1) Each shoe to be divided up into say 5 parts, 3 of Ferodo and 2 of cast iron alternately. (2) Also try 2 parts of Ferodo and 3 of cast iron. (3) Use 50% reduction of leverage in both of above cases in order to provide ample clearance. Care must be taken that the Ferodo stands sufficiently proud of the cast iron to ensure that both Ferodo and cast iron are in contact with the brake drum when the pressure is applied. [Diagram of a brake shoe with 3 Ferodo parts and 2 C.I. parts] [Diagram of a brake shoe with 2 Ferodo parts and 3 C.I. parts] I shall be pleased to receive an early report of which is the better.
