'V' SERIES CHASSIS.

EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}2/H23.5.25.

The following is the position in the Experimental Dept. in connection with the points you raise in the above memo :-

(1 and 2). The necessary modifications in design to correct these two points are completed. The Expl: Dept: are doing no further work in connection with these.

(3) From examination of the bracket which was returned off one of the Trials Cars, evidence shows that there had been violent oscillation on the fan which would account for the breakage. Experimental cars have run 50,000 miles fitted with similar fan brackets - we do not anticipate any difficulty with balanced fans and correct belts. The Expl: Dept: are doing nothing further with this.

(4) The evidence we have on this car is that owing to the rapid formation of carbon due to heavy oil consumption, the power falls off. We get the same affect on either the 20 HP. or 40/50 HP with an engine which is badly carboned. We are endeavouring to reduce the oil consumption although we believe the present 'V' series cars which have been despatched will be found to have a very low oil consumption.

(5) This appears to be a difficulty which we have had on all cars more or less. No alterations in design are contemplated.

(6) We have never had experience of engine gears developing noisy unless they have been disturbed. No modification in the design of this is contemplated.

(7) Our experience is that the dynamos are as quiet as either the 20 HP. or 40/50 HP. If the dynamos are giving the output to the specification, it cannot be helped that they do not balance the lamps. We know that at some speeds the dynamo output will certainly not balance the lamps. The EAC. is no worse than the 20 HP. in this respect. There is no modification contemplated.

(8) This valve should not behave any differently
