Re Petrol Filters.

Your H1/EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/11.12.24.

It is difficult for us to understand how we forfeited a certain measure of trustworthiness by omitting a filter at the point of entrance of the petrol to the Petrol Tank.

We understand that all the roadside petrol pumps have a thoroughly efficient filter in them, and as you will realise there is ample room in these pumps for such filters.

When the petrol is filled in from ordinary petrol tins, there is no reason why the funnel should not have a filter. This is the same thing as having a permanent filter to the entrance of the tank. Apart from this we do not agree that if an additional filter is used in the petrol Tank that the complaints we receive will naturally be overcome.

If foreign matter is passing the filter which is already in the Petrol Tank, and which the petrol must pass on it's way to the Carburetter, there is something wrong with the filter and it should be made to do it's work properly.

If, on the other hand, the foreign matter is between the petrol tank filter and the Carburetter, then something further should be done to remove this foreign matter before the car is put into service.

Our impression of this trouble is that when the system has had the opportunity of clearing itself, the trouble does not recur, which gives us the idea that a filter at the entrance to the Petrol Tank would not minimise the trouble.
