a/- Modifications made to meet the changed running conditions encountered by chassis in America.

b/- Modifications made to enable them to produce with sufficient accuracy by different methods from those adopted in England.

c/- Modifications made apparently with the sole object of cheapening production.

(A) Modifications to meet American running conditions.

(1) Vaporizer scheme & Starting Jet.
This has been a matter under discussion between R.{Sir Henry Royce} Derby & Springfield, and it was known something had to be done to make the running of car possible under certain winter conditions which are the rule in U.S.A.

(2) Bosch Magneto & Battery Ignition.
The American Bosch Magneto was passed for us by a standardisation sheet issued from Derby, the Battery ignition was modified by adopting the Bosch system in place of R.R. on plea of service requirements demanding it.

(3) Cylinders.
Valve guides were bushed to enable valve spindle fits to be maintained. This has not been standardised at Derby for English use.

(4) Bijur Starting & Lighting equipment.
Adopted in place of Lucas on account of latter not being obtainable for service replacements in America.

(5) Gearbox Breather.
This has been removed and replaced by a small hole drilled in end of change gear tube on end removed from brake lever.

(6) Connecting Rod.
Bush at small end driven tight into rod instead of floating. Derby think this desirable.

(7) Petrol Tank.
Fitted with side filler and petrol level gauge This was submitted to R.{Sir Henry Royce} originally and agreed to if lightened and improved.
