GOSHAWK 111.
4 SPEED GEAR-BOX CASING. X.4650 X5810

We send herewith Lec.1906 the main drawing of the above.

You will note that we have made some modifications to the shape since drawing Lec.1897 with a view to simplification. The construction of the box virtually consists of :-

(1) A portion of a large cylinder concentric with the main shaft running from front to rear.

(2) Upon this cylinder and intersecting it, is built a rectangular box which runs the whole length of the large cylinder and has a hole registering with each compartment in its top for the assembling of the internal mechanism.

(3) Concentric with the lay shaft and reaching for the length of the forward compartment only is a portion of another cylinder.

(4) And a portion of a smaller cylinder concentric with the same shaft spans the rear compartment.

(5) Concentric with the reverse shaft are portions of cylinders intersecting those already mentioned, and portion spanning the forward compartment being larger than the rear, and having a hole for locking a reverse pinion nut.

(6) On the opposite side of the casing is a box-like formation intersecting the cylinders already mentioned, of an 'L' formation extending from the rear and as far forward as to embrace a hole which has been allowed for assembling of slider, and extending vertically, from top of box down to the interlock slider facing. The curved formation housing the first and second speed striking fork forward of this box-portion is shown on Lec.1897.

(7) The complete formation generated by the sections mentioned at forward portion of box run right out into the cone of the flywheel casing, and would intersect it with large radii, eliminating all sharp or dirty fillets.

The drawing of the flywheel casing, and further particulars of front and rear housings will follow shortly.
