Report on bumping test of Front Axle F3391 - X.23

This axle has been used on the bumping test during the tests of frames. Several others have been broken previously but this one has broken in a different place. The others all broke about 3" on the inside of the near side spring and the fracture always commenced on the top flange at the front.

After running

39 hrs 5 mins. Axle cracked through the off side front spring clip hole.

42 hrs 35 mins. Cracked through near side front spring clip hole similar to above.

44 hrs 25 mins. Cracked through off side back spring clip hole.

59 hrs 32 mins. Axle broke 6" on the inside of the near side spring. The fracture commenced at the bottom flange in this case. All previous breakages have commenced at the top flange at the front.
