With reference to my recent conversation with you, concerning the breakages which occur on the bumping rig, I would like to suggest that an analysis is drawn up for submission to Mr. Royce showing the life of the various parts.

From the reports which have been made it seems that the cross steering levers have a life averaging about one hour, the buffer springs perhaps three hours, the spring clips vary between two and four hours, the central bolt of the spring half an hour, and the steering tube has also a comparatively short life.

I think if such a table were drawn out, it would enable Mr. Royce to easily review the strength of the various pieces in the train from the hand wheel to the road wheels in the steering gear, and also the fixings of the springs.
