Dear Sirs,

Ref. N.A.7/1B.20314.

Thanks for your letter of the 20th inst., contents of which I note with interest. There are no fundamental changes whatever in the latest types of Houdaille Suspensions.
The only changes in the type now made are as follows:-

The system of regulating the valve through which the Castor Oil passes on the recoil of the Car Springs: As previously made and as shown in the drawing, there is a rod adjusted by means of a turnscrew, at the bottom end of which the rod was hollow and holes were pierced, and it was the juxtaposition of these holes in relation to the two 3 m/m holes on the inner part of the spindle, which regulated the size of these latter holes to suit the recoil of the Car Springs. As now being made, the end of this rod is kept solid, but the last 6 m/m of its end is made oval, and of course the movement of this oval more or less closes the two holes in the moving spindle, and in this manner determines the size of these holes when the regulating is being done. This method is found to be more positive than the other.
