HARTFORD SHOCK ABSORBERS.
---------------------------

With reference to Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 3/NJ. 20. 6.24. and copy of letter received from Messrs T.B.Andre & Co., Ltd. in regard to our complaints regarding Hartford Shock Absorbers supplied to us, we note that they are preparing a sample shock absorber in which they provide a hexagon head for the centre adjusting bolt instead of the present type round head with a pin.

Will you please arrange for this to be addressed for our attention, otherwise it may get mixed up with ordinary production.

In regard to the spring plates, we naturally do not wish to commit ourselves as to which we consider to be the most suitable, although our impression is that Andres informed us some time ago that they considered multi-spring plates are better than the single thick one.

We do not remember having seen shock absorbers fitted with triplex spring plates, as so far as our recollection goes we have only received shock absorbers which have been fitted with two spring plates, one of which is larger than the other. We suggest therefore that they fit the sample shock absorber with the triplex spring plates referred to.

We consider that the Works should return all the shock absorbers which are fitted with the large thick spring plate, those with the double spring plates which have taken a permanent, set, also they should return all the locking washers which have the various faults reported upon.

These shock absorbers should be fitted up with the correct type of multi spring plates and correct locking washers. In replacing the above spring plates we hope Messrs Andre will see that the material is of suitable spring steel.
