C O P Y. Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler} BY1/H.26.6.24. Chassis 74-FW. - Atchley. Pass Climbing in Switzerland. It is sheer nonsense for the above customer to try and tell us that what we have done has made the car worse. We have tried the experiments on hills ourselves, besides trying the car out on the dynamometer, and we have satisfied ourselves that if what we have recommended all along has been done, there is a 30% reduction in the tendency to boil. There is one point which previously I had not mentioned, but it is of value, namely, that the customer should of course, have the lowest gear ratio in his axle. It does not matter whether it is an open or closed car, if it is running in Switzerland it should be fitted with a 14-tooth axle, and then if the remainder of our recommendations are followed out, we are quite sure that there is an enormous difference between the standard car and the car so fitted. It appears to me that the customer in question is a general grumbler, and it is quite certain that he does not keep strictly to facts, as the alterations made, if put into practice, would, as pointed out above, alter the whole complexion of the case as it has already done on every other customer's car we have so treated for Swiss conditions.
