Continued Letter to Rudge-Whitworth, Ltd. Sheet No. 2. sistent with this theory. Another possibility is that a thread of one member or the other had been accidentally deformed before assembly, but it hardly seems likely that this would have escaped detection during assembly. A similar remark applies to the suggestion of grit or other foreign matter in the threads being the cause. It is appreciated that you wish the interior of the locknut to present a good appearance so we propose con- tinuing to deposit on the turned area of the interior, but to mask the threads and cone during this operation. It must be admitted that we are in the habit of supplying locknuts plated on the threads and have not experienced this damage, but in general the thread clearances on such locknuts are larger than in your case, so the suggested procaution is felt to be advisable. We shall be glad to have your comments on this matter in due course. Yours faithfully, For and on behalf of RUDGE WHITWORTH LTD. p.p. H. {Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} H. {Arthur M.
