- 2 - SPECTRECodename for Phantom III (contd) Carburetter Flooding (contd) question and carburetter schemes generally. It was pointed out that with four carburettors there were four chances of this flooding taking place. The two-carburettor scheme was considered to be a desirable improvement, and it would at least halve the risks of flooding. An experimental engine is already running with a temporary rig for two carburettors. The matter is being treated as urgent, in order to bring about the two-carburettor or duplex carburetter scheme as quickly as possible, if possible before production. Eg stressed the importance of getting this carburetter system right at the start of production, and not to have to change design afterwards. Broken Push Rod Stronger ones are now available. Leaks from Rear Axle An oil return scheme has been instructed to cure this. Query. See Swdll. Size of Throttles This will automatically be corrected when the four carburetter scheme is dropped. It could also be cured with the present carburetter system. Leaks from Shock Absorbers E reports that the final design for these will be O.K. Chunking in Drive No.1 SpectreCodename for Phantom III is reported now to be very good in this respect. The matter has been improved by - (a) a heavier flywheel (b) spline clearances being reduced. This is considered now to be as good as the Phantom II. Rear Axle Dither H reports that they have a line of development for this, and is instructing a scheme for staying the frame which overcomes this objection. The Experimental Dept. were instructed to try and get this scheme on to a car in France as soon as possible. | ||
