4-SPEED BOX. X.5310

With reference to As. suggestion of more powerful plunger location of the 1st. and 2nd. speed sliders, if this is agreed to we consider that it should be carried out in accordance with the suggestions on Lec.2048 herewith.

As doing this with varying spring loads might cause confusion in replacing or assembling springs at any time we have indicated on Lec.2048 that it should be done by varying depths of notches in the slider guides, and in this connection it should be pointed out that it is probably necessary to have the deep notch for the 1st. speed position only.

We consider that owing to the necessity of preventing the steel ball plunger from dropping through into the slider guide hole when assembling an amount of shoulder indicated on the drawing should be left to prevent this.
