X1588 PN{Mr Northey}2/DN/3.4.24. TO Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}, C. & Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} FROM P.N. MR. ERNEST HUTTON, late of Vickers Ltd., has bought a new 20 HP Rolls-Royce chassis through the Car Mart and is having a closed type of body built for him by Park Ward. Mr. Hutton, who lives at Beaulieu in Hampshire, has made a practice of using benzole in his cars of recent years. He apparently can obtain this easily and conveniently in quantities and prefers to use it. He has been informed, however, that there are certain parts of the Rolls-Royce 20 HP which will not hold up to the use of benzole - that they become corroded. He has been informed that our float on the 20 HP is made of copper and this becomes corroded. Will you please inform me whether the information given to Mr. Hutton in this respect is correct; if so :- (a) What are the parts affected ? (b) Can you replace them with similar parts made in metal which is non-corrosive, and at what cost ? (c) Would the provision of these parts entail many days' delay in the use of the car ? Mr. Hutton states that he has also been hearing great accounts of DUCKHAM'S NEW PROCESS OIL FOR LUBRICATION. It is stated that resulting from its special method of manufacture, there is an entire absence of carbonisation in the cylinders. Mr. Hutton, who buys lubricating oil in large drums, wishes to know whether we can give him any information regarding this oil before he decides to risk using it or to wait until further experience has been gained with it. I shall be glad to have any information on the above points at the earliest moment, please. P.N. | ||
