Messrs Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Date 13.6.29. Page 2 finished. We tried to drill the first one for Mr. Royce's car ourselves here, but signally failed. We accordingly hand-wrote a temporary dial in cream cellulose, fitted it to the gauge, and sent it forward to you, pending the making of another dial by Willis. We have been in communication with Willis on the matter, and he tells us that by means of a diamond tool he can drill the dials for us on completion. We are accordingly having the three 40/50 h.p. dials returned to him for drilling, and have instructed him to make another one for Mr. Royce's car, to be drilled as soon as completed. This dial we will forward on to you for fitting to the instrument patch, either before the car leaves your works or otherwise, as you may decide. We greatly regret the delay, but we did not realise that this special enamel finish was coming forward on these dials, and so were entirely unprepared for the trouble and consequent delay which has been caused. We remain, dear Sirs, Yours faithfully, H.M. HOBSON, Ltd., B.P. Searight Joint Managing Director. | ||
