Minute 4.
Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} is still working on this job in conjunction with Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager}
Parallel splines are now standardised on the latest 20/25 chassis and this should affect considerable improvement on chassis now being built.
In bad cases, particularly where trouble has been re-current, it is suggested that parallel splines should be introduced by fitting a new flywheel. Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} will get out cost of such a conversion.
Minute 5. Sticking Air Valves. (5th item in H's note.)
H1/AL.18.9.33. states:-
"A good deal of trouble is being experienced with "air valves, apparently too closely fitting on new "cars. Many cases are being dealt with by Inspecting "Engineers, and do not in consequence, reach the "Repair Dept. Information is required as to whether "a better job can not be made of these valves before "delivery and as to whether aluminium with its "characteristic considerable expansion under heat, "is the best material."
E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} is recommending an alteration for standardisation which will cure this trouble, but it is considered that the complaints in question are not entirely due to fouling by grit. Many of them are due to distortion of the Air Valve Pot when screwed home into the carburetter.
It is recommended that the Experimental Dept. investigate the possibility of increasing the initial clearances on both the small and large diameters and possibly delete the small breathing hole in the top diaphragm of the carburetter.
Minute 6. Popping in Exhaust.
E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} mentioned that the only real cure for this complaint is to use throttle edge carburation, but naturally this cannot be made retrospective.
Here, Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} read from page 3 of H's notes as under:-
"This matter is of course not one that is specific- "ally recorded at present in the quarterly return "of complaints, but H's help is required because "it is becoming very much a matter of complaint "amongst the owners of new 25 H.P. cars, who are
