Minute 3.

Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} here raised the question of timing gear rattle on the Phantom and stated that recently he had had 10/12 complaints. One car was cured by removing the packing washer from behind the cam wheel and replacing it behind the front bearing, thus moving the camshaft and cam wheel bodily endways.

There seems to be no reason why this operation should remove the rattle but Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} puts the matter forward so that an investigation might be made on these lines.

Minute 4.

Slipping Clutches (3rd item in H's note.)

Hl/AL18.9.33. states:-

"The position in respect of this trouble is not yet "satisfactory. The last sentence in the remarks "column on the last quarterly complaint list is "concurred in; namely, that the matter should have "the further consideration of the Experimental Dept. "Can W. give any reassuring information as to the "progress being made in view of the pressure serration "job not having proved a complete cure."

Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} quoted the number of complaints during the June quarter as under:-

25 H.P. ................ 101.
P.II. ................ 28.

Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}'s remarks against these complaints were :-

"Slipping is often due to oil on the fabrics. Steps "have been taken to delete automatic clutch spigot "lubrication on 20/25 H.P. cars. Depot sheets Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}185 "Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}196. Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}205. Pressure ring serrations are being "modified to prevent binding. See Depot Sheet Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}242. "We consider this should have further consideration "of Experimental Dept."

H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} thought that a number of the June quarter complaints were prior to the serration alteration, but Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} reported that he had had 13 recurrent cases after Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}242, modification to the splines had been carried out and that these cars are run by 'hard drivers.'

Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} will check recurrent complaints to see whether the spline modification is completely effective in preventing binding of the compressor plate.
