PROGRAMME FOR SINGLE CYLINDER UNIT. (1) COOLANT TESTS. Tests to be run under the following conditions in an attempt to equalise the temperatures over the head. R.P.M:- 1000, 3000, 4000. Mixture:- W.M.M.P. Water outlet temp:- 75°C and 100°C for each speed. Ignition advance:- 1% drop retarded. Various combinations of water flow through the head are to be tried until a metal temperature difference of only ± 2°C is obtained. A series of gasket burning tests is then to be carried out as under. (2) GASKET BURNING TESTS. S.A.E. ring packing joints are to be used and tests run as under:- R.P.M. 3000. Ign. adv:- sufficient to give 50 ft. of detonation. Mixture strength:- 1% rich. Water outlet temp:- 80°C. Plug position:- Throat. Unit to be run under these conditions until gasket fails. All data to be entered on special sheet and gasket filed. (3) TESTS OF NEW TYPE CYLINDER HEAD (No.6). Unit is to be rebuilt incorporating head EB.3437 (no.6), and the following tests run after checking the compression ratio (with .030 alum gasket). (a) Maximum power curves, open exhaust and silenced, 1000 - 4500 r.p.m; 1% ignition drop; non-detonating fuel. (b) Non-detonating curve, 1000-4500 r.p.m., optimum ignition advance; Redline No.3 fuel. | ||
