FROM CWB.

It has been reported by Messrs. Barker that many of the fittings on the induction pipe connection for Autovac and windscreen wiper, have been broken off due to the following causes:-

The pipe to the Autovac is found to be loose and so the cap nut which is normally supplied with this fitting, is tightened down in an effort to make the joint tight. In some cases this cap nut is not long enough and the end of the pipe connection butts against the end of the cap before the face of the nut tightens on the joint.

Under these circumstances, this cap nut is more often than not screwed down very hard in an effort to make a joint, with the result that when it comes to be unscrewed it usually breaks off the connecting pipe through the centre of the four small holes which are drilled through it.

It would appear that:-

(1) This small pipe is hardly strong enough at the point where the four holes are drilled, and

(2) That the cap nuts have not sufficient clearance to allow for the slight compression of the washers which make the joint.

Would you please look into this matter?

CWB.
