Re G1G-5 - Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s Trials Car.

With reference to your Worll/R9.5.35, and dealing with the correspondence attached, I have as far as possible collected the views of the parties concerned, also interviewed Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} and C., and tried their cars (with LA{L. A. Archer}).

A brief summary of the position is as follows:-

Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} is quite satisfied with his car, and that it now represents a good standard of 25 H.P car, except for the following:-

(1) Brakes squeak. This hasrecently developed. Comes from the servo, which has the fully floating non-fading type material fitted (V.M.30) (Shortly to be standardised). He/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} considered fault due to material being damaged by overheating when originally fitted and "run in". He is sending similar new material to JLE{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} and instructing for fitting and running in, and informing Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} accordingly. We are assured this fault is exceptional and has not occurred on all other cars with this material.

(2) Petrol consumption. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} takes the view that the consumption is poor compared with that obtained with similar car fitted with previous type carburetter. This would appear to be confirmed by evidence from customers. The Experimental Department (Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}) does not agree, based on the 10,000 mile tests and results obtained on your car. Otherwise all parties agree that something will have to be done.

This complaint is serious and beyond the action of ordinary production attention.

Suggest point for agenda on your next chassis conference.

Summary of views :-

Reversion to the old type carburetter, and having regard to our present knowledge, modifications could be made to overcome the two serious defects - spitting in the exhaust on retard and sticky air valves.
