X.2628 Re - Rear Spring Greasing.
-------------------------

I sent my car, 30 L.W., into N. last week in order that a new pressure pump sent me by EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} might be fitted, and at the same time I arranged that N. should grease the springs - this operation being due.

I was not present myself, but my driver, Henning, reported to me subsequently that 6 Rolls-Royce spring leaf wedges were used up in the operation, apparently, owing to the great stiffness of the leaves, with the consequent difficulty in separating them.

We supply in our tool kit one of these wedges, and this, I think, must be considered ineffective especially as it will not be in such expert hands as those of our own staff at N.

I think you would wish to consider the advisability of either experimenting with a strong screw claw device of W. design, or of leaving a slightly chamfered spot in one place under each leaf into which a wedge would have some chance of being driven. Possibly both devices would be necessary.
