361? To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}15/JH.1.2.38. 149.TA. COMMANDER HOLBROOK. PHANTOM II re Petrol Starvation. We have never been able to reproduce this trouble. We are of the opinion that it may have been caused by petrol boiling in the plate type filter (Repair Dept. say this has happened before) On the other hand it may have been pre-ignition, we have not seen the original sparking plugs, KLG.M.50 were in the car when it arrived, a type not known to us, and not very satisfactory for our engine. In view of this customers complaint, which we understand has occurred several times it would be expedient to remove the plate filter from the dashboard, and fit a filter on the rear crossmember. The whole of the petrol system has been carefully dismantled and checked over, nothing was found to indicate the likely cause of starvation. SUSPENSION. We have greatly improved the ride and controlability of the steering at speed we give below a few items which required attention. (1) Front wheels were out of balance N.S. 6 1/2 ozs. O.S 6 1/2 ozs Pressure too high found to be 45 lbs. (2) Cross steering tube lumpy, found to have picked up on the brass pads, poundage varied with position of tube and was 4 lbs. high. (3) Axle controls found to be seized up on the faces of the bottom bushes. (4) Front shock dampers initial load should be 35 lbs. The O.S.F found to be 110 lbs N.S.F 45 lbs. The N.S.F. damper was found to be full of a liquid which resembled half water and half oil. Rear dampers O.K. (5) Steering stabiliser found to be rusted and seized up in its links. | ||
