Remarks.

Water Pump Failures.
We have examined all water pumps for this quarter but have not kept a separate record of those which have failed. The later type glands and spring separator appear to be an improvement.

This trouble is considered by By, to be due to faulty lubrication, and special instructions have been issued to Depots as to the correct method of packing the axle with ball bearing grease.

Design unaltered but springing specification has been improved, but we shall never please everybody. The Phantom is proving a very difficult car to spring in the case of a few very critical owners. Experience is showing that many of these owners are more nearly satisfied when the spring friction is reduced as far as practical. The action of polishing and greasing the plates will satisfy some owners but we are afraid the reduced friction caused by the presence of grease is not maintained for long and greasing springs is a big job in these days with booting etc. We are very strongly of opinion that an anti-rust electro plating such as cadmium would be of much benefit.
