X.4342- STARTER MOTORS OF OTHER MAKES FOR "GOSHAWK II"

We are sending you herewith, in accordance with your request, prints showing a starter motor outline for the type SC and for the Smith SS {S. Smith} motor.

C.A.V. Type SC Motor.

This motor is considered by the makers (which is also evident from examination of the curves of this machine) to be very easily capable of starting the Goshawk engine. So much so that Messrs. C.A.V. have even suggested the use of another of their types of motor still smaller, but it was finally decided between us and them that this would not be advisable.

Smith Type SS {S. Smith} Motor.

Messrs. Smith have on several occasions stated to us that they do not think this motor large enough for properly starting the Goshawk II engine, and are supplying it to us as such, merely for purposes of experiment.

It has been previously suggested that this motor should be lengthened, but R. {Sir Henry Royce} has decided that would not have this done, but try out the motor as it is.
