Dear Sirs,

With further reference to your letter of July 1st, our Drawing Office have now checked over the blue prints which you sent for the Model BS {A J. Barnes - Assistant Manager} Starter for "Goshawk II" Engine.

SHAFT D.50045. We agree with this drawing with the exception that we should like the seating for the ball bearing, the finished size of which is .7874" on your Drawing, to be left as .802" when you send the shaft to us. We find that it is necessary to grind the ball bearing seatings after the armature has been wound in order to make sure that the armature is absolutely true.

BEARING BRACKET D.50051. It does not state on your drawing of what material you propose to make this bracket. We suggest that gunmetal is employed, as it is necessary for the outer portion of the ball race to be pressed into a gunmetal surface. If aluminium is used for the bracket it is necessary to cast in a gunmetal bush, as we find that if a ball bearing is pressed into an aluminium bracket direct it is impossible to be sure that the aluminium will grip the outer portion of the ball race.

Subject to the above remarks, we should be glad if you would let us have a shaft, bearing bracket, ball bearing and bearing cap arrangement at the earliest possible moment.
