-2- DISTRIBUTOR. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC{R. Childs}4/AP30.3.38. and Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC{R. Childs}7/MM.13.4.38. have dealt with this. All the necessary mods. are drawn and now in the Pattern Shop. A spring driven R.R. distributor starts endurance running 9.5.38. Road tests with an aluminium driving pin show the spring drive to be a great improvement. Handwritten: BEHIND ENGINE VIBRATIONS The torsional vibration indicator has shown that the front end of a Bentley crankshaft behaves in exactly the same way as Wraith. Recommendations will be made by the Exp. Dept. for raising the crankshaft critical speed. Handwritten: EXP TO MAKE RECOMMENDATION FOR NEW CRANK BIG-END BEARINGS. From endurance running it has been decided to standardise A.C.9 die cast on production. Handwritten: O.K. STEERING PIVOTS. Investigations are in hand to show whether the low speed wobbles on 25.S.VI are due to the experimental rubber mounting of the front suspension. No other car has this trouble. OVERDRIVE GEARBOX The first Phoenix gearbox has not yet been completed for 1.B.50. It will not go in the Wraith frame. Designs are in hand to get an overdrive in the existing Wraith casting, if necessary. Handwritten: CANCEL PROPELLER SHAFT. The vibration @ 47 m.p.h. has not yet been conquered. Only 25 shafts have been ordered. IGNITION COIL. The fitting of a Delco coil to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s car has cured misfires. This confirms the decision to put a Delco coil on production. Handwritten: R.R. Coils should be fitted to all Rolls Cars | ||
