Sr/VA5/ET.26.6.39 - 2 - We trust that the new camshaft, as at present fitted to this car will not upset the slow running, because it will be a fairly long job to remove it and fit an early type one, especially in view of the fact that we have promised delivery of the car for the end of this week. The dismantled camshaft (3.OP.144) is worn as follows: N°I cam has .008" wear N°2 " " .011" " N°3 " " .008" " N°10" " .010" " (These cams are also badly scored.) 3.BT.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer}3 SELIGMANN - Report N° P.236. - The reason why we fitted a new camshaft to this car and converted the tappet mechanism to the solid type was owing to the very worn and scored condition of the cams and bottom tappets. N°I cam had .018" wear N°2 " " .017" " N°3 " " .020" " The wear of the remainder varied from .012" to .020". We should be glad if you could let us have some form of ruling as to when you consider a camshaft should be replaced. We take it that it is quite in order that, when a new type camshaft and lower tappets have been fitted for the reasons stated above, we should always, at the same time, fid solid type plungers. For the reasons stated in H.11/H.23.6.39, 3.OP.144 is of course an exception. We are sending you two camshafts for examination. Sr/VA. | ||
