X326 F.J.H RWE Dr. C. E.Hbr. Dr. RMD. - HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} E/HDY.{William Hardy}1/HP.18.5.36. Phantom III Speedometer Drive. With reference to HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/JH.7/KW.18.5.36, the next 10,000 miles car should have a single .500" drain hole in place of the two .312 drain holes instructed in this memo. The .500 hole should be placed on the same centre line as the existing .312 hole except that it should be raised the amount necessary to retain the same height of oil in the speedometer gear compartment as is now given by the .312 hole. As regards the oil retaining washer on the servo drive shaft inside the gearbox, will you kindly instruct that this is deleted on the next 10,000 mile car, and a single adjustment washer provided here as originally fitted to the SpectreCodename for Phantom III/box. This will save the expense of the thrower washer and in our opinion it is unlikely that more oil will pass the ball bearing under any conditions than can be dealt with by the .500" drain hole.
