X.4195 Armoured Cars - Tyre Pump. X4197

In accordance with Mr Royce's instructions while I was with him last week, we have prepared another method of driving the Maxfield tyre pump. It will be seen that the alteration consists in providing a flexible shaft between the end of the magneto shaft and the chain wheel drive of the pump, the advantage of this being that the out-of allignment between the chain wheels and the magneto shaft, which is almost bound to occur, will not affect the bearings.

We suggest that this scheme should be detailed and should be placed in front of the former scheme, if possible, but of course if serious delay is likely to arise, no doubt it is more important to get some sort of tyre pump drive on in a certain time than it is to get this particular one on.

The housing screwed into the timing gear case is not altered, nor any of the upper part of the drive.

Two prints of "N" Scheme 625 attached.
